The religion of Christ means more than the forgiveness of sin; it means taking away our sins, and filling the vacuum with the graces of the Holy Spirit. – Christ’s Object Lessons p. 419.6
If the total function of Christianity is to forgive sins, what a depressing religion that it would be. It’s like it would be an endless cycle of the devil always winning and God not being strong enough to protect us from him. Don’t get me wrong, there is a great beauty in the fact that Gods forgiveness gives us a clean slate (though not necessarily saving us from the consequences of our actions), but there is more to the work that God does for us.
He makes us new, and then helps us to live a different life by the Holy Spirit. Yes, we can overcome the temptations and inclinations of an evil world. Yes, we can develop a character like God’s.
I want sin to be removed from my life and replaced with better things.
