Remember that you will never reach a higher standard than you yourself set. Then set your mark high, and step by step, even though it be by painful effort, by self-denial and sacrifice, ascend the whole length of the ladder of progress. Let nothing hinder you. Fate has not woven its meshes about any human being so firmly that he need remain helpless and in uncertainty. Opposing circumstances should create a firm determination to overcome them. The breaking down of one barrier will give greater ability and courage to go forward. Press with determination in the right direction, and circumstances will be your helpers, not your hindrances. – Christ’s Object Lessons p 331.3

Revelation 3:21 – To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

We can achieve more in life than we know.  We can overcome more in life than we know.  We can overcome faults and sins, we can reach places in life that seem unattainable, and we can press towards our potential.  To do this we need to have a goal to work towards.  This goal should be overcoming sin in our lives.  It should be becoming more educated in the things of God, and also gaining more general knowledge.  It should be to achieve and keep healthy bodies and healthy relationships.

You can overcome your present discouraging circumstances.  You can overcome your present discouraging sins.  You can overcome the present discouraging barriers.  It will take self-control.  It will take sacrifice.  But with every victory progress will become easier and more meaningful.

God wants all of these things for us.  I know I need to honestly evaluate my goals and barriers, but I also know that God will help me in the pathway of all progress.

Philippians 3:14 – I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
