Undervaluing Prayer

The idea that prayer is not essential is one of Satan’s most successful devices to ruin souls. Prayer is communion with God, the Fountain of wisdom, the Source of strength, and peace, and happiness. Jesus prayed to the Father “with strong crying and tears.” Paul exhorts believers to “pray without ceasing,” in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, making known their requests to God. “Pray one for another,” James says. “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Hebrews 5:7; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; James 5:16. – {Testimonies to the Church, Volume 7 42.3}

1 Peter 5:8 – Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

It seems to me that people have different parts of their spiritual walk that are stronger. For me, I like to read and study more than pray. I feel like that’s how I grow the most. I have to be careful that I don’t undervalue prayer.

Prayer is our lifeline to God. The importance of prayer shines through to me in James 4:2, which says there are things we don’t have because we don’t ask. Don’t let the devil psyche you out. Pray. Get creative about what you ask for so you can get the extra blessings!

  1. I agree that prayer is essential, but depending on how and what you pray, the prayer could be dangerous. I think Satan could use our prayer as a trap….
