Article: Natural Disasters—An Act of God?
This post by James Rafferty speaks to something I have been noticing people say more recently. This was God’s will, that was God’s will. Well, it worked out this way, so it must be God’s will. This horrible thing happened to me; it must be God’s will.
God’s will doesn’t happen all the time on earth right now. That’s why Jesus said to pray:
Matthew 6:10 – Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
God’s will isn’t happening here. Not even most of the time.
We have any enemy. This is clearly seen in the story of Job. It’s also in Matthew 13 in the parable of the wheat and tares. When God has a good thing going on, the devil wants to mess it up.
God’s character is much more appealing when we see that we’re in a spiritual war that affects each of our lives. However, that war won’t last forever. and then God’s will WILL be done all the time, and we’ll all be better for it.
Thought provoking and well written. Glad you shared!
It’s disheartening to note how cruel we make God sound at times through our careless religious jargon.
I know right? ‘Acts of God’ are you kidding me?
