Pride and Humility Verses

I’ve been thinking about pride and humility and how important they are.  I compiled a few verses that I think showcase the ideas well.

Proverbs 11:2 – When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

Proverbs 16:18 – Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 22:4 – By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honor, and life.

Zephaniah 2:3 – Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD’s anger.

Rom 12:16 (NKJV) – Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

1 Corinthians 8:2 – And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

Philippians 2:3 – Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

1 Timothy 3:6 – Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

James 4:7-10 – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (8) Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. (9) Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. (10) Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

1 Peter 5:5-7 – Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. (6) Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: (7) Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

1 John 2:16 – For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
